BIOGRAPHY

Colin Miller is a lyric tenor pursuing his Master of Music degree at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University under the tutelage of Professor Nova Thomas and the Renée Fleming Endowed Scholarship in Voice. Colin completed his Bachelor of Music degree at the New England Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Professor Bradley Williams. There, he was a part of several opera scene programs where he performed partial roles of Count Almaviva from Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia and Ramiro in Rossini’s Cenerentola. He also performed several mainstage roles, including Alfred from Strauss’s Die Fledermaus and a zany portrayal of the Gingerbread Witch in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, which he reprised as a part of the conservatory’s annual Commencement Concert in the historic Jordan Hall. Also in his senior year, he was granted the opportunity to be in a masterclass with soprano Sari Gruber.

In 2022, he attended his first year at the Brevard Music Center as a part of the Janiec Opera Company with director Dean Anthony, where he portrayed the role of Sancho Panza in Mitch Leigh’s Man of La Mancha and covered the role of Remendado in Bizet’s Carmen. Additionally, he performed as a soloist in the Pendergast family Patriotic Pops Concert with the Brevard Orchestra and took part in several masterclasses, including with tenor Jason Ferrante. That same year, he was named a winner in the Colorado-Wyoming district of the Eric & Dominique Laffont Competition. The following two summers, he returned to the Janiec Opera Company to perform the roles of Bill in a brand new production of Jonathan Dove’s Flight under the baton of Joseph Mechavich, Jack in Sondheim’s Into the Woods with maestro Craig Kier, and Matt of the Mint in Weill’s The Threepenny Opera, as well as covering Peter Quint in Britten’s Turn of the Screw. He also performed in masterclasses with soprano Caroline Worramezzo-soprano Phyllis Pancella, and an exceptional masterclass with Patti Lupone. Colin was also very honored to participate in a musical revue with music from Jerome Kern and Friends under the direction of musical director Andy Einhorn.

In 2023, he covered the role of Nemorino in Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore with Boston Opera Collaborative. Additionally, he debuted with the Rivers Symphony Orchestra in Boston, Massachusetts, as a part of a concert titled Drama at the Symphony, where he performed a scene as Arnold from Rossini’s Guillaume Tell. His recent artistic appearances include several performances at the Shepherd School of Music as a part of their Lunchtime Concert Series, where he performed excerpts from Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Fidelio in the roles of Tamino and Jacquino, respectively. He is also covering the role of Oronte in Handel's Alcina and, earlier this September, participated in a masterclass with baritone Lucas Meachem. Later this fall, Colin will return to the Brevard Music Center as the Tenor Soloist in their performance of Handel’s Messiah, and this coming spring, he will perform the role of Leon in John Corigliano's The Ghosts of Versailles. He will also perform in a scenes program as part of the Aleko Residency at the Shepherd School of Music with Ryan and Tonya Mckinney.
